Sheltering Tree for TSSC358

Image
It's Monday and time for the Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge .  As always Mary Jo has a wonderful sketch for us, take a look. I used Sheltering Tree for my card today, it's one of the new sets I haven't had a chance to work with yet. I went with this set because of the way the tree fit perfectly on the Party Pennant die cut.  When I first saw the sketch, the shape of the focal point immediately reminded me of that die cut, so that's the direction I went in. There was a lot of ink on this week's card, which doesn't always happen.  I had started out with a Pool Party card base, but it was too much blue.  So instead, I went with a Whisper White card base and made a background of clouds.  To do this, I went back to a retired product from Stampin' Up that some of you may remember. I think I've told you all before that I am a hoarder, so I bet you aren't surprised that I held on to this stencil that retired probably ten years ago.  It's just such a g...

Valentine Roses

Image
I have a Valentine to share with you today, but it's not a card.  I haven't done anything 3D in a long time so I made a treat for Valentine's Day.  I have an 8 month old baby, which means I have lots of those rectangular plastic baby food containers.   I just can't seem to throw them away, they sit in a bag waiting to be used.  So I challenge myself to make something beautiful out of one to justify my stash! So, what do you think?!  Can you tell this was once a container of baby food?  I must say that I am very pleased with the final result.  Who wouldn't love to get some yummy candy hearts in a lovely container like this!  I used the new Spiral Flower Die to make the roses that are the center of my design.  The die cut makes the rose making process sooooo easy! The roses are made from Real Red card stock, I cut a quarter sheet for each.  To disguise the lid I added a doily that I gathered and ruffled.  The two roses are hot glued a...

Flashback Friday: Roses In Winter

Image
It's Friday!! Time to flashback again with a set that was a favorite of mine when I first started stamping, Roses in Winter from 2003. I was asked to make a special Mother's Day card, and I thought of this set.  It has a beautiful softness to it, with the blending of colors as a two-step stamp set.  Here's the card I made, blending old with new. I blended a lot of new with old to make a more modern style card.  The card base is Crumb Cake embossed with the new Modern Mosaic EF.  It's hard to see here, but I lightly stamped the small flower inside some of the mosaics using Crumb Cake ink.  Here's a closer look. I stamped the roses with Strawberry Slush from the new In Color Collection.  I stamped off three times for the bottom layer, two times for the middle then directly stamped for the top.  I cut them out by hand as well as the leaves and small violet flowers.  The leaves are Pear Pizazz with Old Olive and the small flowers are Wisteria Wonder....

Oh, Whale for CCMC251

Image
I can't believe it's Thursday already!  This week for the Challenge at Create with Connie and Mary we have a great sketch to work with. I thought about Oh, Whale for this card immediately.  I saw the clouds in strips and the waves fitting right into this sketch.  Here's the card I made. The card base is Marina Mist embossed with the Cloudy Day EF.  I also used the Cloudy Day EF for the strips of Whisper White to go behind the waves DSP from Sunshine and Sprinkles.  The whale was stamped with Melon Mambo and die cut with the Happy Whale Clearlit.  I also die cut stars in Daffodil Delight with the Happy Whale Clearlit.  The greeting was stamped with Melon Mambo then die cut using a Bitty Banners Framelit.  The whale and stars are adhered with dimensionals so they'll stand out.  I was pleased with how quickly this card came together.  This week's sketch was such a fun one!! I hope you will join in the challenge too and create a card with t...

Fun 3x3 Cards

Image
Today I have some fun little 3x3 cards to share.  I packaged these up with a business card in a small cello bag and gave them out to potential customers.  I really enjoyed making them, there is a lot less space to cover, so they come together quickly.  I did three different designs. This first one uses the Aviary stamp set.  A cute little hello card.  The card base is embossed with the Houndstooth EF.  I liked the frame embossing folder as a cut out.  Looks like a real picture frame with the birds and cage.  I ended up making a couple versions of this one. The next card is using Up, Up and Away.  I did several versions of this one too.  I embossed the card base with the Fancy Fan EF to look cloud like.  I made clouds out of the top of the cupcake from the cupcake builder punch.  And lastly the balloon was stamped and cut out by hand.  A sweet and simple Hello card! The last card style is made using Bordering on Romance....

Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge TSSC253

Image
It's Monday and we have a great new sketch for the week for the Monday Lunchtime Sketch Challenge over at Technostamper.  Here's the great sketch Mary Jo gave the design team this week. Lots of possibilities for this fun sketch.  I had a couple different ideas, this is the one I went with. I have been enjoying all the fabulous Sale-a-bration stamps, so I went with a Patterned Occasions card.  The DSP is Sycamore Street and I used the coordinating In Color card stock.  The jeans were chosen for a special reason.  It hit me the other day that I have the background stamp Just Jeans from 2003, so I could make my jeans look like real jeans!!  I used the Kissing Technique to transfer the jean design to my stamp.  First, here is a close up picture of the jeans I stamped. The technique is really simple.  I simply inked the background stamp with Island Indigo ink, then pressed my jeans stamp to it. The ink with the background image transfer to the stamp....
